Food Plant: Juncus spp especially J.inflexus but also J.acutiflorus, J. articulatus, J.compressus, J.conglomeratus, J.effusus. After hibernation has been recorded on Luzula multiflora (Common woodrush) Mine: September-June Notes: Feeds on the seeds. The white silk case is formed in the second instar, which may lead to it being seen when still small. The case of Coleophora alticolella is similar but is formed in the third or fourth instar, unlike glaucicolella. The larvae are also different with glaucicolella having dorsal sclerites on the metathorax and these are absent in alticolella. Larval case fixed for pupation on a leaf of Saltmarsh Rush (Juncus geradii). Adult reared and ID confirmed via dissection by Peter Hall. National Status: Common Bradley No: 582 Data: 20.v.2022, emerged 29.v.2022, Gann Estuary, Pembrokeshire, VC45 Image:© Will Langdon |
