4.074 Etainia sericopeza (Zeller, 1839)
< back
cocoon

Food Plant: Acer platanoides (Norway Maple)

Egg: On leaf-stalk in summer; on samara in spring

Mine: June, September - May

Notes: In June mines the wing of a samara, mining into the seed with a short gallery. The cocoon is formed on the samara (as shown, with larval exit from seed just above), which often falls to the ground. The second generation mine the petiole initially then the flower bud and forms a cocoon on this. Both generations may form cocoons on the tree trunk.
