Egg: under a protective covering on two to four year old shoots in the crown of the tree

Mine: August-June

Notes: Overwinters as larvae beneath the protective egg covering, then mines the leaves in May. Initially form small full depth mines which merge to form a large brown blotch. They then feed gregariously in a web (as shown, causing the leaf to brown). White silken cocoons, neatly arranged, are formed in a web. Widespread in Britain, in Orchards.
