15.087 Phyllonorycter comparella (Duponchel, [1843])
< back
dorsal
ventral

Food Plant: Populus alba (White Poplar), Populus canescens (Grey Poplar), Populus nigra (Black Poplar), Populus tremula (Aspen)

Egg: Underside of leaf

Mine: July, September-October

Notes: An underside mine, with few creases and causing little leaf distortion. Some mottling of the upper leaf surface may be caused. It had been assumed that the host for P.sagitella was exclusively Populus tremula but P.comparella is now also known from this host. It is now advisable to check the pupa or breed through to confirm the identity of a Phyllonorycter species on Aspen. The mine is shown on Aspen in dorsal (top photo) and ventral (bottom photo) view.
